PFUTSERO, October 29 (MExN): The Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) has filed a police complaint against the proprietor of United Bakery, Kohima, for allegedly making false statements and defaming the local business community, following an inquiry into recent allegations of mislabelled bakery products.
The action follows reports aired by two YouTube channels concerning the labelling of products by United Bakery, which incorrectly referenced Pfutsero Town and its traders, the association said.
According to a statement issued by the PTBA on Wednesday, an ‘independent inquiry’ involving the bakery dealer based in Pfutsero and the proprietor in Kohima, revealed that no dealer from Pfutsero had requested “any alteration of manufacturing date labels on bakery goods.”
The Bakery proprietor admitted to making a “false and misleading statement” in the media, wrongfully linking the issue to Pfutsero, the PTBA maintained.
It was also verified that the consignment cited in the report (dated October 29, 2025) was intended for another district, and no such products were dispatched to Pfutsero.
“In view of the above, the Pfutsero Town Business Association has filed an FIR at the Pfutsero Police Station against the proprietor of United Bakery, Kohima, for providing false information and defaming the reputation of the Pfutsero business community,” the statement said.
The Association has urged the police and concerned authorities to take appropriate action and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The PTBA further noted receiving information about “a few instances” of incorrect labelling from the bakery manufacturing unit. It also highlighted complaints from some local traders and consumers regarding bakery products from other companies found to be infected with fungus before their “Best Before” dates, suspected to result from repackaging old stocks with new labels.
The PTBA strongly cautioned all bakery manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors to ensure accurate labelling and date markings in full compliance with food safety standards.
“Any bakery found guilty of mislabelling, repacking, or selling expired or unsafe goods will face strict action in coordination with the concerned administration, police, and the Food Safety Department,” the association cautioned.
As an immediate measure, the PTBA announced that no new United Bakery’s products will be allowed for dispatch in Pfutsero Town until the matter is fully resolved.
The association assured the public of its commitment to consumer safety, the integrity of local traders, and fair business practices in the town. It also requested the Food Safety Department to investigate the case and take necessary action.
