Nagaland PWD gets new office complex

Kohima  |  July 13 : Minister for road & bridges G. Kaito Aye inaugurated a new complex of Nagaland PWD office here this morning. Speaking on the occasion, Aye termed July 13 as a historic day for PWD department as the new complex will go a long way in improving the working system and enhance the communication of the staff under one complex.
Asking the officers/staff to think in term of what good achievement they can make for the welfare of the people, he told the staff that the new complex is not only meant for their comfort but convenient for the service of the people. Stating that the working atmosphere will become easier with the arrival of the new complex, he called upon the officers and staff to rededicate themselves for the service of the people. Also stating that PWD has to connect the villages, he urged upon the officers and staff to be more sincere and take responsibility for the benefit of the people. He also stressed on the need to protect the building and make sure that it last for 50 years.
Expressing concern over the lack of office attendance, he called upon the officers and staff to maintain discipline, cautioning that the violators of the service rules will face suspension from the service. The minister said the government employees who come office at 2/3 PM according to their like be discontinued. Saying that a time has to work for the betterment of the people, he challenged the officers and staff to perform their duty not only as a call but take it as voluntary as the public need the service of the department. “Please don’t forget your assignment/profession,” the minister said.
Parliamentary secretary for mechanical, transport & communication P. Dako Phom in his speech said the marvelous and beautiful new complex of PWD is one of the biggest and tallest buildings of the departmental office in Nagaland. He was hopeful that the new complex will create a congenial atmosphere for officers and staff to perform better for the interest of the people. Stating that PWD is the backbone of all developmental activities, he asserted that developmental activities cannot be carried out without road. In this, he called for a good road connectivity to carry out any developmental activity in the state. He continued that Nagaland has been witnessing tangible development through the road connectivity.
Also speaking on the occasion, parliamentary secretary for housing, labour & employment Er T. Saku Aier expressed happiness over the construction of the new complex. He was hopeful that the officers and staff will now work conveniently in this magnificent building for the welfare of the people.
Briefing the technical report, Er L.Yezhekhu Sumi, chief engineer, PWD (Housing) said the construction of new PWD office building complex which was along felt desire for better accommodation and to be under one roof. When engineer-in-chief post was sanctioned, Er. Sumi said, there was no accommodation and so his office was attached to Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) office here, in the meantime the old Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) office has to accommodate National Highway and PMGSY in the same building. Hence a necessary arise to have bigger accommodation.
The architect wing was entrusted to bring out the master plan of this project to meet the present requirement, the government also agreed to consider the proposal involving the old offices of Central Division, Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B) Circle No I & II, Estate Division, Power Division Kohima were to be dismantled for this construction. Er. Sumi added that this new building has floor area of 1,00,000 sqft from the basement to the third floor comprising four storey. Initially, the proposal was amounting to Rs. 13.92 crores and subsequent revision was made and revised the estimate to Rs. 38.66 crores. The cost revision is subjected to increase in plinth from 80,000 sqft to 1,00,000 sqft, CC flooring to marble and tile flooring, additional provision of gypsum board ceiling, CGI sheet roofing to Dyna Roofing, Steel glazed window to Aluminum glazed window, water harvesting tank of 2,00,000 litre capacity and additional provision with lift facility. The work was awarded to Vilelie Khamo. Er. Sumi said that PWD department appreciated his sincere effort to complete this project. It was done under the supervision of Central Division PWD (Housing).
Earlier, Dr. Er. Vikuotuolie Angami, Ph.D, Engineer-in- Chief, NPWD chaired the function while vote of thanks was proposed by Er. Peter Solo, chief engineer, PWD (NH).
