Minister G Kaito Aye with others during the visit to landslide-affected section of National Highway-29 near Phesama on June 9.

KOHIMA, JUNE 9 (MExN): Nagaland’s Minister for Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges), G. Kaito Aye, on Monday visited the landslide-affected section of National Highway-29 near Phesama, close to Kisama Heritage Village, to assess restoration efforts and ongoing relief measures.
Accompanied by senior PWD (R&B) officials including the Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, and Executive Engineer of the South Division, the minister inspected the damage caused by the landslide and reviewed the pace of repair work. The route, a critical lifeline connecting Nagaland to Manipur, has seen severe disruption since the landslide occurred.

Aye commended the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and contractors for their ongoing work but urged them to expedite the restoration with full commitment.
Officials at the site informed the minister that clearing work for an alternate road alignment is in progress with support from local landowners. As an immediate relief measure, exit roads of Kisama Heritage Village have been opened to allow light vehicles to pass through temporarily.
Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) also informed that the Chakhabama–Kezocha–Kidima route, connecting to Pudunamei in Manipur, remains functional and is currently facilitating the movement of essential goods vehicles while the main highway remains blocked.
Aye said the state government is giving high priority to the full restoration of NH-29 and appealed to all stakeholders for cooperation to ensure timely completion.
