Nagaland records over 60,000 MSMEs on Udyam Portal

Nagaland and other North-East states have registered a significant number of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on the Udyam Registration Portal (URP), according to data presented in Parliament.

Nagaland has recorded a total of 60,887 MSME registrations on the Udyam Portal, covering the period from the portal's launch on July 1, 2020, up to July 15, highlighted the information was provided by Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on July 24.

The total in Nagaland comprised 60,701 Micro enterprises, 170 Small enterprises, and 16 Medium enterprises."

The URP itself is a free, paperless, and fully digitalized online platform established by the Ministry of MSME. Its stated purpose is to provide an identity to MSMEs, enabling them to access various benefits under the Ministry's schemes, subject to eligibility criteria.

Status across NE

Across the region, other states similarly demonstrate substantial MSME registration figures, reflecting a broad adoption of the Udyam Portal.

Assam stands out with an impressive 1,190,931 total MSME registrations, encompassing a vast majority of 1,183,889 Micro enterprises, alongside 6,523 Small, and 519 Medium enterprises.

Tripura ranked second with 272,165 registered MSMEs, while Manipur had 148,416.

Nagaland stood third, followed by Meghalaya at 54,335, while Mizoram has recorded 45,164 MSMEs.

Arunachal Pradesh trailed slightly with 39,400 registrations, and Sikkim had 29,079 enterprises registered on the portal.

The national total for MSME registrations on the Udyam Portal stands at 65,833,368. For comparison, Uttar Pradesh has 7,103,829 registrations, and Tamil Nadu has 5,311,976 registrations, indicating the larger scale of MSME activity in those states.
