On the advice of the Committee, the WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, however, advised members states to ‘Temporary Recommendations’ before a long-term management of the COVID-19 is adopted.

The recommendations, among others, included sustaining the national capacity gains and prepare for future events; integrating COVID-19 vaccination into life course vaccination programmes; public health surveillance; support research to improve vaccines that reduce transmission and bring together information from diverse respiratory pathogen surveillance data sources to allow for a comprehensive situational awareness.
