Nagaland reports 77 new COVID-19 cases

Nagaland reported 77 new cases of COVID-19 on August 7, taking the State’s tally to 2657. The new cases include 74 from Dimapur & 3 from Kohima.

According to data from the Health and Family Welfare Department, 56 of the cases detected on Friday are from the armed forces (53 in Dimapur and 3 in Kohima). Meanwhile 3 are returnees in Dimapur, 15 are traced contacts in Dimapur and 3 are frontline workers from Dimapur.  

Health Minister, Pangnyu Phom meanwhile stated that “contact tracing is fully put in force and all primary contacts are kept under self isolation to avoid further transmission.”

The number of active cases in the State now stands at 1824, while 824 people have recovered so far. So far, the State has registered 6 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 and one death was described as COVID-19 positive but not due to COVID-19. 

Principle Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha meanwhile informed that as per the severity of symptoms, 1,823 active cases are asymptomatic and 1 active case is moderate.

Further, out of the 2,657 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people are: 1,173 cases from Paramilitary/Military, 1,051 cases from Returnees, 185 cases from Frontline Workers, 195 cases are Traced Contacts and 53 cases are Others.

Till date, a total of 27,592 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR and results of 25,892 samples have been received. In addition, a total of 18,152 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat and 559 samples have tested positive which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR.

Out of the 17,901 samples received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), a total of 17,086 samples have been tested and 1,691 samples have tested positive. Out of the 5,534 samples processed at the BSL-2 lab at the CIHSR, Dimapur, 871 samples have tested positive.

A total of 2,161 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine.
