Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): Children from the North East states of India are often targeted for trafficking following promises of free education or other facilities, fooding, lodging but the vulnerable children never get the promised education, instead getting abused.   This was informed by NK Keny, a member and advisor to the Board of Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women Rights and National Board Member of NACG- EVAC India. “Stop convincing innocent parents to send their children away and stop misusing children of North East India,” she said while delivering her message at the National Consultation on Safe and Quality Education held on November 1-2 in Bhubhaneshwar, Odisha.   “Both government and private sectors need to implement better quality, and child-friendly, education in schools,” noted Keny, hoping that this would ensure children to access education in their local schools.   Taking part in an open discussion, Keny highlighted an increase in cases of crimes against children. She said, home is the safest, most secure, place for children to grow up in though children also get abused in their homes if adults are not careful.   The Consultation was organized by the People's Culture Centre, NACG- EVAC, Odisha and Odisha Alliance for Children Rights in collaboration with National Action and Coordination Group for Ending Violence Against Children (NACG-EVAC) India. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. Rinchen Chophel, Director General, South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIEVAC). SAIEVAC is an apex body of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). It calls for action on the findings and recommendations of the UN Study on Violence Against Children with SAARC member countries pledging to strengthen national child protection systems and safeguard children against violence in the countries across the region.   The NACG-EVAC India’s objective is to strengthen civil society networking at all levels across the country, seek and form linkages with government, institutions and professional bodies, to stand up for a rights-based approach to eliminating violence against children, to promote strong policies, laws and programs for the good of children and to be a country forum for collective learning and sharing, advocacy and action.
