Nagaland requires 31 more fire stations

Pohwang Konyak inaugurates Fire Station Dimapur-West

Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Government has established nine Fire Stations in the last eight years taking the total to 17, but the state still has a shortages of 31 Fire Stations. 

Out of nine, 7 fire stations - Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Peren, Kohima-North, Longleng, Tuli and Dimapur-West have been inaugurated, while the two others will be inaugurated shortly. 

Pohwang Konyak, Advisor, Fire & ES, SIRD and Land Resources informed this while inaugurating the Fire Station Dimapur-West in presence of officials from various departments and public leaders on July 23.

Addressing the inaugural function, Pohwang stated that as per MHA report, ‘Nagaland State should have forty eight fire stations and the Department will strive to achieve these requirements in the days to come.

Stating that the department concerned has been striving its best to serve the public in spite of various constraints, he said the Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services was bifurcated from Nagaland Police on April 1, 1990 and formed as a separate Directorate with 8 (eight) Fire Stations due to its technical profession. 

From 2011 onwards the Department had initiated various visions and activities with the approval of the State Government MHA, Government of India had conducted a detailed survey about the requirement of Fire Stations in Nagaland, he added. 

Meanwhile, the Advisor appealed the public to cooperate with the fire fighters so that with public cooperation we can protect our life and properties from fire disaster.  

A press release issued by the IG (F&ES) Nagaland, Kohima stated that the programme was chaired by Neilasa Sopfü, IG (F&ES). Imsanenla Imchen, SDO, Police Engineering Project highlighted the details of this project which was funded by NEC. “This project was executed by M/s. P. Suohu under the supervision of Police Engineering Project,” the release added.
