The 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in its 2nd second session here today adopted six points resolution on Indo-Naga political issue. After thorough deliberation by the House, the six point resolution was adopted by raising hands, which was moved by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
The House placed on record its deep appreciation for the invaluable sacrifices made by the Nagas over the past several decades in their effort to bring an honourable, acceptable, inclusive and expeditious settlement of the Indo–Naga political issue.
The House appealed to all sections of Nagas to continuously sustain and strengthen unity and peacefully participate in the ongoing negotiations “so that the aforesaid settlement becomes inclusive.”
It appealed to the Naga political groups that have walked away from the negotiating table to return to the same for an expeditious settlement. The House also expressed gratitude to all parties to the negotiations especially the Government of India under the leadership of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, for inking the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 and the agreement on November 17, 2017 with the Naga National Political Groups.
The House reiterated its earlier resolutions dated 12.12.1964, 28.8.1970, 16.9.1994, 18.12.2003 and 27.7.2015 on the integration of the contiguous Naga inhabited areas for integration and also affording all Nagas opportunity to live under one umbrella.
Further, the House urged upon the Government of India to appreciate the fact that the Indo-Naga political issue is more than 70 years old and that the very negotiations continuing for around 21 years, and “therefore urges upon it to make all out efforts to expeditiously bring out an honorable, acceptable and inclusive settlement.”
Earlier, debate on Indo- Naga political issue, which was initiated by Leader of the House, Neiphiu Rio witnessed the participation of 17 NLA members across political parties.
Assembly session adjourned sine-die
NLA Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshu adjourned the 2nd session of 13th NLA sine-die after completing all the listed business. After half an-hour discussion on matters arising out of answers to starred question No. 1 raised by opposition leader TR Zeliang pertaining to status of agreement with Civil Engineers Enterprise Pvt Ltd (CEEPL), North East Handloom & Handicraft and Hind Xerox under home department, both the ruling and opposition bench agreed to form a Joint Parliamentary Committee to go into details. The House passed a government bill on Nagaland Goods & Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2018 which was introduced on Tuesday. “The Nagaland Goods & Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2018 will make the Nagaland Goods & Services Tax Act more comprehensive and trade friendly, Rio stated.
