Total restriction of all movement from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong will be enforced from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on September 20 to allow highway restoration works, informed a circular by Dimapur’s Deputy Commissioner on Saturday.

The restriction was imposed following an avalanche of rocks at the unstable stretch of NH 29, currently in the midst of a width expansion project, at around 7:00 am, about a kilometre away from the Chümoukedima police check post towards Jharnapani.

One family reportedly had a narrow escape on Saturday morning when their car was stuck in one segment of a cliff-side that caved in. They managed to get out and get to safety before the car was crushed by the rockslide.

It was informed that the debris was partially cleared and single-lane/one-way traffic was enforced later on Saturday.

Meanwhile DC Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan in the circular regretted the restriction of movement but added that it was imposed “to avoid loss of life, property and other injuries” and as a “preventive measure to attend to highway restoration.”

The cooperation of everyone is sincerely sought, he added.

He also informed that light vehicles travelling between Dimapur and Kohima can go through the alternative route via 7th Mile-New DC Office-Shokhuvi-Razaphe-Mhaikam-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jhornapani/Medziphema and vice versa.
