Nagaland: Rhino horn worth Rs 1.5 crore seized by Dimapur Police, one held

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN):  The Dimapur Police has arrested one person for illegal possession of Rhino horn estimated at Rs 1.5 crore in the international market. 

“The horn was found concealed inside a dark brown bag. Its weight was 440 grams and 27 cm in length. Its value in the international market is estimated at Rs.1.5 crore,” informed a press release issued by the Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police/PRO, Dimapur.

The seizure was made on September 8 by a special police team following a specific input that the Rhino horn was being sold for Rs.45 lakh, it said. 

The accused identified as one Peter Lotha, presently a  resident of Zakiesatuo Colony Dimapur, was arrested from Duncan Basti, it added. 

A case has been registered in West Police Station under the Wild Life Protection Act, Prevention of Damage of Public Property Act and relevant section of IPC, the release said.
