Minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) and parliamentary affairs Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today rued the “pitiable” road condition in Nagaland State is like a person with cancer. In this, the minister said that the “pitiable road condition in Nagaland needs immediate treatment.”
He stated that though Nagaland is a non-revenue-generating State and has shortage of funds, the Government of Nagaland will try its best to improve the road condition in the State and hoped that the Government of India will extend required assistance.
He said this while addressing the 43rd general conference of the Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SAKK) at Kichilimi village under Pughoboto sub division.
Referring to the memorandum submitted by the village councils for construction of an all-weather road from Mukalimi Junction to Hoishe village via Kichilimi (Approximately 28.23km), the minister assured that he would try and do whatever is possible. Nienu said that he will coordinate with parliamentary secretary for irrigation and flood control Y. Vikheho Swu to pursue the matter.
The minister said that development is a multi dimensional concept; it is a system to ensure education, a system to ensure health care, security, stability and also to ensure revenue generation. This, he maintained, can be done solely by initiating human resource development, on which depends the “march forward.”
Taking human resource development in the right way, Nienu asserted, will ensure a bright future but taking the same without earnestness would lead to a “dark and disastrous future.”
Stating that students are the backbone of the society and the future, the minister stated that it is time for Nagas to invest in their children and mould them in the correct manner. He urged upon students to be more sincere, dedicated and committed to whatever they do.
Also stressing on the need to have quality education to compete with the fast changing world, he said we need the best among the best today. Nienu encouraged students to concentrate on self determination and career guidance that would help them achieve their goal.
In his New Year greetings, the minister said “As we start the New Year, we believe we will start afresh with new friendship, strengthen our bonds and brotherhood and march forward.” He wanted 2014 to be a year of “peace, reconciliation, understanding and coordination amongst the Naga brothers.”
The minister was accompanied by parliamentary secretary Y. Vikheho Swu, Shetoyi, MLA Er. Picto, and others. Earlier, SAKK president Caleb Swu delivered the presidential address while welcome address was delivered by Kughakhu Sheqi. Bito Yepthomi, speaker, All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) also shared greetings. SAKK advisor Kalito H. Chishi chaired the inaugural function.
Meanwhile, parliamentary secretary Vikheho Swu will grace the cultural event on January 17 at 9:30am. The conference, which started on January 15, is being held under the theme ‘Re-generation.’ 22 units under Pughoboto sub division are taking part in the conference.
