Nagaland: RUSA help improve facilities at Mt Tiyi College

Wokha, November 24 (MExN): Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along inaugurated the boy’s hostel and indoor sports complex at Mt Tiyi College, Wokha on November 23. 

Addressing during the inaugural function, the Minister stated that the joy of inaugurating or being part of establishing institution is that “the joy goes beyond to see that the seeds of the future of our people are reflected in the right direction.” 

He thanked the Government of India and Government of Nagaland for RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) project which has given 100% success story to the department of Higher Education and its institutions in Nagaland. He congratulated the Directorate officials and RUSA project Director who despite of the many challenges faced could made all activities happen. The Minister also congratulated the contractors for the good quality workman ship exhibited and completing the works on time.

The Minister also informed that Under RUSA another two corers for construction of college class rooms is being sanctioned, where he appealed the land owners and stakeholders to allow things to happen for the benefit of our coming generation and extend cooperation for successful completion of work.

While thanking the leaders and people of Wokha and Zunheboto district for being relentless in its effort which has made these two colleges accreditation under NAAC (National Assessment & Accreditation Council), Temjen Imna also assured to make sure that science stream is introduced in both the colleges at Wokha and Zunheboto.

The Minister urged the principal, faculty, ministerial staff and students to have goals straight, visualise beyond your time and work hard unceasingly and persistently and give their best for the upliftment of the college.

During the programme, Lt Mhondamo Kithan, First education Minister, Government of Nagaland Memorial Award for Academic excellence for the year 2020 was awarded to Achano N Ovung, College Highest Scorer in Economic Honours which was handed over by the Minister Temjen Imna Along. 

Dr S Tssikhen Kithan who gave a brief history of Lt Mhondamo on behalf of his family members said this award is given to keep the hopes and knowledge alive and to serve as a source of encouragement for the students in achieving their goals.

The boy’s hostel is constructed under RUSA funded by Minister of Education, Department of Higher Education, GOI and GON, while the Indoor Sports Complex is constructed under UGC funded under the Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Giving a brief technical report of the boy’s hostel, Er Sentimenbang Jamir, SDO, PWD Housing, Education Division, Kohima said that the total estimated amount for the hostel is two crore with 50 bedded facility and the work commenced on February 2, 2015 and was completed on April 28, 2018 and added that the work was completed within the stipulated time allotted.

Advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs, Director Higher Education Dr Abeni and host of department Officials and State BJP party officials accompanied the Minister. Rev Khonpemo P Kikon, Wokha Town Baptist Church, Wokha Town offered the dedicatory prayer for both the new buildings.
