Dimapur | February 12
Nagaland’s fight against COVID-19 seems to be heading on the right track as the number of recoveries has been consistently more than the new cases for the second consecutive week since the third wave in the state.
Following the previous week’s tally of 570 new cases, Nagaland continued to see a significant decline in detection of new COVID-19 cases for the week (February 5-11) with 358, marking a 37 percent drop.
As per the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme’s (IDSP) weekly COVID roundup, released on February 12, out of the total, 90 percent of the new cases were detected in Dimapur and Kohima and overall, 81 percent of cases were among testing of symptomatic/self-test category.
The roundup also indicated that the overall weekly sample positivity rate fell to 6.5 percent—going below 10 percent for the first time in four weeks. Last week it was at 13.2 percent. However, at the district level, Kohima and Wokha recorded sample positivity rate of more than 10%.
Against the weekly tally of fresh cases, at least 592 patients recovered from the disease over the week (February 5-11).
As per data from the IDSP, 427 recoveries were reported in Dimapur, Kohima- 94, Tuensang- 28, Mokokchung- 18, Wokha- 9, Phek and Mon- 5 each, Zunheboto- 3, Peren- 2, Kiphire- 1.
However, in contrast, the state reported 13 COVID-19 fatalities—the highest weekly deaths reported in the last 4 months.
“Out of 13 deaths, 11 had comorbidities (HIV-AIDS, Diabetes, Hypertension, TB, chronic liver disease and cancer). 7 had not received even a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine and no one had received the third dose which is recommended for elderly with comorbidities,” the IDSP stated.
Vaccination especially for those with comorbidities is highly recommended as COVID-19 will continue to be amongst us, it added.
The IDSP also informed that there were 29 new COVID-19 hospital admissions in COVID-19 hospitals during the week.
In terms of vaccination, the weekly roundup stated that 15.89 lakh doses of COVID Vaccines have been administered across the state. Out of this, more than 1.44 lakh doses have been administered in the 15-18 year old category.
