In a major relief to commuters in the State capital, two way route of the four-lane Sanuoru Bridge along the Nagaland Secretariat Road opened today for traffic.

Flagging off the traffic, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton expressed hope that the remaining two lanes of the bridge would be completed on time. Patton, who is Minister in-charge of PWD (R&B) informed that the contractors have sought extension till December 2021.

Appealing the contractors to complete the work before December 31, 2021, Patton said the government wants to inaugurate the complete four lane bridge on time.

Rovilatuo Mor, Commissioner and Secretary for Works & Housing said the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) sanctioned the project in 2015. The work was allotted to M/S Vilelie Khamo and KC Angami (Joint Venture) in July 2016. However, the actual bridge layout was given only in November 2018.

Mor recalled that in view of the inconveniences caused to commuters along the subway, it was decided that the contractors should concentrate for completion of one (two lane portion) first and open the same for traffic. He maintained that the contractors have tirelessly carried out the works to ensure that at least two of the lanes are now open.

The Commissioner and Secretary also informed that the works for the remaining two lane portion and other ancillary works are on in full swing. “It is hoped that the contractors carry out with the same enthusiasm and complete it,” he added.
