‘Nagaland Says No to Plastic’ campaign reaches Lower Agri Colony

Kohima, June 25 (MExN): An awareness programme under the banner ‘Nagaland Says No to Plastic’ organised by The Coming Generation (TCG), Kohima was held at Lower Agri Colony June 21.  

It is an initiative of ‘Nagaland for Change’ campaign as one of the social action programmes of the TCG for better Nagaland. TCG in a press release stated that the objective of the campaign is to give and spread awareness on the ill effects of plastic pollutions and the threat it poses in the days to come and also to encourage people to use biodegradable bags which are available in the market.  

“Recognizing litters and mismanagement of waste as a serious issue this step had been taken to reduce one time plastics use and to encourage people to refuse plastic bags as much as possible. The campaign has selected some colony in Kohima as a model village for this campaign,” TCG added.  

The awareness programme was attended by the colony council members and representatives of women and youth. The speaker of the programme Alice Kamei, Coordinator from TCG called upon councils member to take part in the campaign by declaring their colony as ‘Plastic Free Zone Colony’ and to bring a good spirit of competition among colonies. She also challenged them to set an example for other neighboring districts and states. She added declaration is only the beginning of the task as follow up activities will be carried forward to make their locality Plastic Free Zone.  

It was also stated that many matters came into light after knowing the hazards of plastic to air, water and air as to how they will dispose those plastics which are already in their homes and shops.
