Nagaland schools to constitute club for drug abuse prevention

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): Nagaland, January 23 The Department of School Education, Nagaland in Pursuant to the Government directive, all Middle, High and Higher Secondary Schools functioning in the State of Nagaland (Government & Private) have been directed to constitute ‘PRAHARI Clubs’ (exclusive children’s club on awareness on bad effect of drugs and substance abuse in human life). This is in compliance of the guidelines given under Section 6 of the “Joint Action Plan on Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking” developed by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Narcotics Control Bureau, Government of India.

According to a DIPR report, the ‘PRAHARI Clubs’ may be constituted with a total of 20-25 Students selected from Classes 6 to 12 under the Supervision & Guidance of a responsible Teacher –in–Charge who is a person of integrity. The ‘PRAHARI Clubs’ shall be given the responsibility of carrying out two suitable activities in a year and the awareness activities of the club may be integrated into the existing programmes of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Apart from awareness generation, the areas of focus of the club will be to sensitize all members of the club to be vigilant on children taking drugs and substances or if children are being used for trafficking of drugs and substances; and to be vigilant of any activities or suspected activities of use and sale of drugs and substances in and around the school premises.

Further, members of the ‘PRAHARI Clubs’ shall share any information they get regarding activities or suspected activities related to Drugs/Substance abuse with the Teacher-in–Charge who in turn shall share it with the School Head for appropriate action.

 School Heads may download a copy of the “Joint Action Plan on Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking” made available at the DoSE Online Educational Services Portal (https://dosenl.in) for ready reference and further necessary action.
