Nagaland signs MoU with Manipal to extend academic opportunities

Kohima, April 13 (MExN): A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Karnataka and the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW) Nagaland and Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Nagaland facilitated by Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Kohima on April 13.

“The objective of signing the MoU is to facilitate the development of collaborative and mutually beneficial programs which serve to enhance the intellectual life and cultural development of the general public and persons with disabilities,” a DIPR report stated.

“With the signing of this MoU it is expected that more premiere educational institutions will be following the lead of MAHE to sign agreements with Government of Nagaland for extending academic opportunities and capacity building of students from Nagaland,” it stated.

A total number of 200  seats  per year  will be reserved for  students from Nagaland in the following  22 undergraduate health professional programs offered at  Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Karnataka like; BSc Radiotherapy technology, BSc Anesthesia technology, BSc Emergency Medicine Technology, Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language, Bachelor of Occupational Language, Bachelor of Optometry, Bachelor of physiotherapy, BSc Cardiovascular Technology, BSc Clinical Nutrition & Diabetes, BSc Exercise & Sports Sciences, BSc Health Information Management, BSc Medical Imaging Technology, BSc Laboratory Technology, BSc Laboratory (Lateral), Bachelor of Optometry (Lateral), BSc Medical Imaging Technology (Lateral), BSc Nuclear Medicine Technology, BSc Perfusion Technology, BSc Psychology, BSc Respiratory Therapy, BSc RRY & DT, BSc Physician Assistant and Bachelor in Prosthetics & Orthotics. As part of the course, the selected candidates shall undergo mandatory foreign language training for availing opportunities abroad and the training shall be provided by MAHE.

Apart from reservation of the seats a 25% concession to the existing fee shall be offered to the students selected on merit from Nagaland for the 22 programs under MCHP, Manipal. To lower the financial burden on the parents for professional education of their wards, IDAN and MAHE will be facilitating educational loans for interested candidates.

MAHE will be extending support for campus recruitment and for higher studies for successful candidates.

As part of the collaboration, MAHE and the Government of Nagaland will be exploring opportunities extending the MoU for regulated courses like BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing and for Articulation Programme for Commerce and Health Informatics with 2 year training in India and 2 year training abroad.

During the signing of MoU, MAHE assured that the Academy will give its full support for career guidance and international fellowship abroad in the near future. The Academy also said that it will provide a provision in the MAHE website for Nagaland so that the general public will be aware of the opportunities provided by the Academy for students of Nagaland and can directly apply as well.

Students who are interested in applying to the undergraduate health professional programs at Manipal Academy were also requested to visit the stall opened by MAHE during the “Launchpad Education & Career Fair 2023” which will be held on April 14 at the Capital Convention Hall, Kohima and also on April 15 at Tetso College, Sovima.  

From the list of interested candidates provided by DTE, the final selection will be made by MAHE based on merit. Details of the fees structure and course shall be made available on IDAN website soon. The option for registering to the course will be subsequently extended through DTE.
