Nagaland SSA teachers appeal present government to release pending salaries

DIMAPUR, MARCH 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers' Association (NSSATA) on Wednesday appealed the present State Government to ensure that their pending salaries are released at the earliest.

In an open letter to the Nagaland Chief Minister, Minister of School Education, Director School Education, and Director of State Mission Authority, SSA, the NSSATA Wokha Unit General Secretary Z Libenthung Murry said the SSA teachers have not been paid for the last 5 months - since November 2017 till March 2018. It maintained that no diligent government servant can endure for such a long period at a stretch.

The association stated that the SSA teachers have been experiencing this irregular payment of salary since the year 2013 till date. The matter has been made known to the concerned authority numerous times in the form of representations, series of meeting with the authorities and agitations. It reminded that the latest stir was held at the Directorate of School Education office in 2016 where the unpaid teachers who participated to show resentment were instead water cannoned by the authority.

Revealing the two-facedness of the authority in concern, the association lamented that even as the authority talks in volume about the welfare of the school children, it however keeps pending the teacher’s only source of income for months together.

Towards this, the association cautioned that the precious and bright future of the promising students remain in peril because the teachers with “empty stomach” cannot deliver quality education brushing aside their own poverty.

While highlighting these hardships faced by the teachers, the association has urged the State Government to adhere to the latest assurance letter for regular payment of salary as committed in November 2016.
