Nagaland state anglers converge for workshop cum interaction in Dimapur

Jointly organized by Anglers’ Association Nagaland (AAN) and Mahseer Trust, UK, a Workshop cum Interactive Meet was held at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur on Sunday with Chairman, Mahseer Trust, UK, Steve Lockett as the main resource person.  

Lockett impressed upon the gathering on the importance of preserving the Mahseer fish.  

The resource person has been working as a photojournalist for magazines around the world, apart from writing regular articles in the UK’s weekly Angler’s Mail. He has also been involved in various projects and negotiations that moved the Trust forward.  

His experience of organizing meetings, serving on the committees of various angling clubs led to him being appointed Vice Chair (currently acting Chair) of Mahseer Trust under the new constitution.  

General Secretary AAN, Ricky Ozukum highlighted the activities of AAN while the District Fishery Officers of Dimapur and Mokokchung, Dr. Vimezo Kire and Sunep Ao respectively also addressed the gathering of anglers from different parts of the state.  

1st Nagaland Open Angling Competition

A joint venture of Department of Fisheries, Government of Nagaland and Anglers’ Association Nagaland (AAN), the 1st Nagaland Open Angling Competition would be held on April 22 at Noune Resort, Dimapur with total prize money of Rs 2 lakh to be won in various categories.  

Informing this to The Morung Express on the sidelines of Workshop cum Interactive Meet for anglers on Sunday, the AAN officials said that the competition is organized by it and sponsored by Department of Fisheries to promote recreational and eco-tourism fisheries in the State.  

It was informed that two rods (two hooks) with an entry fee of Rs 1300 would be realized from the participants. The entry fee amount is inclusive of free lunch and fishes caught to be taken home. However, catches of fishes 8 inches and below would have to be released back into the water.  

There would be first top 10 biggest catch category: 1st – Rs 50,000 with trophy and certificate, 2nd – Rs 30,000, 3rd – Rs 20,000, 4th – Rs 15,000, 5th – Rs 10,000 and those at 6th to 10th position will receive rod and reel.
