
Kohima, September 5 (MExN): Nagaland state BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi today expressed shock at the tragic loss of six precious lives and damage to several vehicles and houses on the night of September 3, which was triggered by severe thunderstorm and cloudburst that had led to the devastating landslide, wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting victims at Pherima, along the Dimapur - Kohima National Highway-29.
On behalf of the BJP Nagaland, he expressed deepest condolences to families of the deceased and further wished the injured persons a speedy recovery.
Yepthomi appreciated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for taking stock of the situation by convening the 'High Level Committee Meeting' on September 4 with the attendance of Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton and Minister - in- Charge of National Highway TR Zeliang, along with all concerned officials and agencies.
Further, he appealed the implementing Agency NHIDCL to take immediate rectification measures including deployment of latest technology and proper machineries to ensure that such unfortunate disasters /calamities can be prevented in the future.
Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, who is incharge of the National Highways also said he is deeply grieved by the tragic loss of 6 lives resulting from the Tuesday's night mudslide along National Highway 29 at Pherima.
Zeliang extended heartfelt condolence to all who have lost loves ones.
He also appealed to the public to stay safe by adhering to the safety advisories as the state is facing severe mudslide problems due to incessant rain.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government remains steadfast in keeping the people safe and prevent future tragedies.
All concerned agencies are already in place and working round the clock to restore the damaged highway, he added.
