Trending recent posts, on popular social media platform Instagram, of people posing in a sunflower field somewhere in Chümoukedima district is the current talk of town among citizens of Nagaland.

Located within Lhokheto village under Dhansiripar subdivision, workers at the Sunflower field said that people have been flocking to the location ever since the first few posts went viral on social media. It began initially during the month of late January to February when the sunflowers first started blooming, they shared.

By March, there were several dozen of visitors a day coming to click photos and admire the flowers. At times it became overwhelming, especially during the weekends when a 100 or more people at once turned up around the site, they added.

The workers highlighted several disappointing points such as the unnecessary littering of garbage in and around the field, while a few individuals, without permission, plucked the flowers.

While they were not against people coming to appreciate the flowers, it was also important for people to respect other’s private property and not go unnecessarily damaging the flowers, the workers noted. This is because the harvested flowers were meant to be processed into oil for sale, they added.
