Kohima, March 24 (MExN): The Revised National TB Control Programme State TB Cell, Nagaland observed World TB Day under the theme ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB free world’ at the 4th NAP Thizama on March 24.
Dr. Palash Talukdar, Medical Consultant WHO RNTCP TSN spoke about the signs and symptoms of TB and the facilities available under the programme. He informed that there are 44 Designated Microscopy Centres and 9 CBNAAT machines for the purpose of diagnosing Tuberculosis. He also shared that people with low immunity like HIV and Diabetics are more prone to Tuberculosis. He stressed on the importance of uninterrupted completion of treatment otherwise it may lead to the development of Multi Drug Resistant TB.
The thematic message ‘Wanted: Leaders for a TB free world’ was shared by Dr. Apichetla Amer, Assistant Programme Officer, State TB Cell, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare. She remarked that this particular day was observed all over the world to recognize the achievements made in TB prevention and control activities and also to renew our commitment in eliminating this devastating disease. She encouraged the gathering to take personal responsibility in spreading the message about this disease which will eventually contribute in eliminating this Disease hopefully by 2025 as envisaged by the GOI.
During the course of the programme, queries raised by the crowd were also addressed. Earlier, chairing the programme Alongla, Deputy Commandant expressed gratitude to the team for giving priority to the Jawans and choosing to conduct the awareness programme with them.
A press release issued by Dr. Apichetla Ao said that later on during the day, the team visited the Bright Morning Star Orphanage Home and had a time of interaction with the children about Tuberculosis and tokens and gifts were distributed.
