Nagaland team returns from international media exposure tour

Kohima, October 12 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Khekaho Assumi led a ten-member delegation comprising IPR officials and members of media fraternity to some Asian countries as part of media exposure/educational tour.  

The team, which left Nagaland on September 30, visited Hong Kong, Macao, Phuket, and Bangkok and returned home last Sunday.  

In Hong Kong, IPR officials and media persons had a fruitful interaction with officials of Hong Kong Information Services Department at Harbour building. In the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department, Brett Free informed that the Hong Kong Information Services Department is one of the best centres in the world, gathering information of both Hong Kong city as well as information of the world 24x7.  

He highlighted the importance given to social media by the Department in the present day, stating that the number of Smartphone users has doubled among the population. Modern nation are depending much on Information Technology as it has become the fastest communication online to help the society and nation to be aware of all kinds of information especially during disaster, he maintained.  

He also gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting how their government imparts training to the information officers and other subordinates for all round development with regard to Information Technology, film editing, management of TV channels, how to project Hong Kong to the outside world etc. Talking about the background of Hong Kong Information Services Department, Brett informed that it acts as the PR, publicity and news wire service provider for Hong Kong government. It serves the needs of the media and the public by acting as a bridge between the Government and the people, he said.  

IPR Department officials and media persons from Nagaland exchanged views and opinions with the Hong Kong officials during the meeting. They also felicitated the Hong Kong officials with Naga stoles, bags, neckties and Naga necklaces.  

The team also visited Macao, a world heritage site which encompasses architectural legacies interwoven in the midst of original urban fabric that includes streetscape and piazzas. In Thailand, the team visited Phuket top attractions including Phi Phi Island, popularly known as James Bond Island.
