KOHIMA, JULY 1 (MExN): The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, conducted a one-day training on Price Statistics at the Directorate Conference Hall here on July 1. The programme was graced by Akunu S Meyase, IAS, Secretary, Economics and Statistics, as the special guest.

In his introductory address, Director Neidilhou Keditsu highlighted that the department has developed three key indices—Consumer Price Index (Urban, Rural, and Combined), Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers, and the Wholesale Price Index. He underscored the significance of price indices in effective policy formulation and announced that the department will, for the first time, estimate district-level Consumer Price Index (CPI), aimed at promoting decentralised planning.

Addressing the participants, Secretary Akunu S Meyase emphasised the importance of price statistics and its impact on everyday life. She stated that district-level price data form the foundation for estimating state-level indices, which is a critical process.

Meyase urged data collectors to ensure accurate data collection from original sources, stressing that "right data leads to right estimation." She called on the trainees to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and to engage seriously with the training to fully understand the methodologies, procedures, and mechanisms involved in data collection.

The training was attended by District Economics and Statistics Officers, price data collectors from both urban and rural centres, and officials from the Directorate. The programme was chaired by Deputy Director Kezhalelhou Solo.
