Sovima, January 4 (MExN): Nagaland Senior Men’s team will open their campaign in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy against Hyderabad at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, on January 6.

Led by Captain Jonathan Rongsen, Nagaland occupies a slot in the Plate Group of India’s premier domestic first-class cricket championship, alongside Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim.

Apart from the first game, Nagaland’s final match against Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled from February 2 onwards at the same venue.

Organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Ranji Trophy, founded in 1934, sees teams representing regional and state cricket associations compete.

According to a Nagaland Cricket Association release, Nagaland will be playing in the Plate Group. This season, the last-placed team in each Elite sub-group will be relegated, while both Plate Group finalists will be promoted to the Elite Group for the following season.

The Nagaland Senior Men’s team will play three away matches and two home matches, it added.
