Kohima, September 4 (MExN): Nagaland is launching Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY), a sub scheme under DAY-NRLM, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
This was informed by Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), department of Rural Development, Nagaland.
Nagaland’s rural development minister Metsubo Jamir will flag off the same on September 8 at 10:00 AM at Directorate of Rural Development, Kohima.
The function will be chaired by Imtimenla, joint secretary RD and Mission Director NSRLM.
Neposo Theluo, commissioner & secretary rural development will also deliver short speech.
Rural development director Imnukshila Jamir will propose vote of thanks.
About Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana
Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY) is a sub-scheme implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) to facilitate transport facilities in the rural areas and also provide job opportunities to members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) under DAY-NRLM.
The scheme was launched in August, 2017.
Objectives of AGEY
The objective of AGEY is to provide an alternative source of livelihoods to members of SHGs under NRLM by facilitating them to operate public transport services.
It also aim to provide safe, affordable and community monitored transport services to connect villages for the overall economic development of the area by making use of the supports available within the framework of NRLM.
Salient features at a glance
Under the programme, the Community Investment Fund (CIF) provided to Community Based Organisations (CBOs) under NRLM will be utilized to support the SHG members to operate the vehicles.
There is an option for CBOs to provide interest free loan from its CIF corpus to SHG members for the purchase of the vehicle.
The SHG member will repay the loan over a maximum period of 6 years and bear all the costs connected with operations of the vehicle.
AGEY launch in Nagaland
The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission which is the implementing agency for DAY- NRLM in the state will finally launch this scheme on September 8, which will greatly ease the burden of transportation, especially of SHG products and produce, while also providing earning opportunity for the rural poor.
Under NSRLM, AGEY will be implemented in 29 blocks across 9 districts covering 30 villages.
30 beneficiaries from 30 SHGs have been given interest free loan by the CBOs under this scheme.
The loan term is of 6 years within which the repayment has to be cleared.
The scheme is closed but once the principal is repaid to the CBOs, the same amount can be used to fund other beneficiaries for purchase of vehicles.
