Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio today reiterated his concern over the alarming increase of drug abuse in the State and informed that the Cabinet will discuss this issue and officially declare ‘War Against Drugs’ in Nagaland.

Speaking at inauguration programme of CCTV installation at Police Stations under Kohima district at North PS, Kohima this morning, Rio noted that Nagaland with its geographical location ‘the golden triangle’ has become the main route for drug traffickers and smugglers.

He further termed instances of uniformed personnel involved in the use and peddling of drugs as a “serious issue” and stressed that “we are trying to catch those traffickers and smugglers, we have to clean out own houses.”

The Chief Minister asked the police officers on the need for a strategy on how to control drug abuse within the department while assuring the State Government’s support and help.

“Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985 (NDPS) has to be taken as a challenge to completely eradicate drug menace from our society,” he asserted.

Towards this end, Rio sought the support and cooperation of the administration, police, excise and all agencies to work together, adding: “It is everybody’s problem because it is inside our homes, families.”
