Dimapur, May 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) has announced a four-player men’s team to participate in the 1st U23 3x3 National Basketball Championship, scheduled to be held at the Regional Sports Centre, Kochi, from June 12 to 14.
The players representing Nagaland are Benhilo Lorin, Cuwe Mero, Neisezo Theunuo and Sedeneituo Kuotsu.
In an official release, the NBA stated that the championship marks a significant milestone in India’s basketball landscape, further promoting the globally recognised 3x3 format, which made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
The fast-paced nature, shorter game duration, and intense competition of the 3x3 format undoubtedly bring excitement to fans and serve as an inspiration to basketball players across the country, it noted.
Nagaland’s participation signifies the growing presence of basketball in the state, and the Association expressed hope that it will encourage more young players to take up the sport, it added.
The inaugural championship is being hosted by the Kerala Basketball Association under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India.
Meanwhile, the NBA stated that it has been actively nurturing young basketball talent in Nagaland and the championship offers a valuable opportunity for these skilled athletes to compete at the national level, gaining exposure and experience against some of the best under-23 players in the country.
