Nagaland Tribes Council asks government to ramp up effort

Kohima, May 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) noted ‘serious lapses’ on the part of the government in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and urged the state government to “ramp up its effort and rectify the haphazard operating procedure towards mitigating the thread of spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nagaland.”

In a press release issued on May 30, the NTC stated that “The spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nagaland is from a known source and from within the government regulated environment,” and can be contained and dealt with, if handled seriously.

As such, it urged the government “to ramp up its effort and rectify the haphazard operating procedure towards mitigating the thread of spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Nagaland, and that no returnees is sent to their respective district without the test result of the corona virus.” It also said that proper SOPs must also be ensured while sending the returnees and proportionate medical facilities as well as frontline health workers must be provided to all the designated COVID Hospitals.

While appreciating the efforts of the Government of Nagaland “for making elaborate arrangements in evacuating our stranded people from various states of the country,” the NTC also appealed all the returnees to be patient and follow the laid down guidelines in the greater interest of health and safety of all.

Further, the NTC made a fervent appeal to all individuals of the state to remain calm and not to panic or spread panic at this time of crisis. It meanwhile appealed all CSOs and NGOs to shed their differences, if any, and to cooperate and support the government in its effort towards fighting the threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
