Nagaland: Two accused of 2015 murder sentenced to life imprisonment

Two accused in the murder of Late Meciebo Lcho on March 29, 2015 were given life imprisonment. The sentence was announced on February 28 this year by then District and Sessions Judge Y Maongkaba, who retired in the same month, informed Public Prosecutor Kathu Rengma.  

35 years old Kruse Terhüja from Khonoma village and 31 years old Vilalhoulie Rüpreo from Nachama village were convicted of the murder of Lcho on the night of March 29 where the two accused tortured and assaulted the deceased at Jail Colony, Kohima and later strangulated him to death with a belt and dumped his body at Meriema village. The following day, on March 30 an FIR was lodged by the Meriema Panchayat where investigations began.  

Rengma informed that the investigation carried out by IO Lichanthung Lotha, UBSI was commendable as 'the case would have gone undetected or untracked' had it not been for the dedication of the IO. 13 witnesses were examined by the court. "The public witnesses are very important in such cases. And in this case too, the witnesses were very cooperative," stated the Public Prosecutor. Mention may be made that four persons were accused of the murder, however one person was found unrelated to the case and released. The accused were convicted of life imprisonment under Section 302 of the IPC.
