Nagaland: U-17 coaching camp attracts 78 budding football players

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN): Altogether 78 budding players from 11 districts of Nagaland, including 29 girls, attended the recent Under-17 football coaching camp at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.  

The camp, organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in collaboration with ‘Soccer Competition,’ started in August 6 and the closing programme was held at IG Stadium, Kohima on August 14.  

Sebastian Rasmussen, a UEFA registered Grade-A coach who specializes in working with athletes under 18, was the chief instructor at the camp. He has previously worked in clubs such as Karnby IK and FC Rosengard and has also been associated with Sporting Lisbon, and is currently working in Sweden.  

He is a member of ‘Soccer Competition’, a German based scouting and agent Company that specializes in scouting young talent, informed a DIPR report.   

At the closing function, Commissioner & Secretary Department of YR&S, Anenla S. Longchari, IAS urged the trainees not to give up on what they have learnt from the camp and to practice hard so that “the seeds which are sown will bear fruits.”  

She also noted that those who got the chance to attend the camp should consider themselves “very lucky” as many others missed the opportunity.  

“The Nagas have talents but due to lack of infrastructure and other facilities we are not able to reach our potentials” Longchari added.  

The closing function attended, among others, was attended by Joint Secretary, Department of YR&S, Limawapang and Additional Director YR&S, Rato Pusa.
