DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): The Nagaland men’s under-19 cricket team started the Men’s U-19 Vinoo Mankad (One-day League) Trophy 2021-22 on a winning note defeating Manipur in a Plate Group game at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.

The Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) informed that that the state U-19s handed a 6-wicket defeat to Manipur in a rain affected match reduced to 38-overs a side.

A feisty bowling display from Neizekho Rupreo (3 wickets), Kelhousilie Zaputou (2 wickets), Raja (2 wickets) and Odilemba (1 wicket) restricted the Manipur side to 170 in 36.2 overs despite valiant knocks from Suresh Singh (80 runs) and Dominic (30 runs).

Nagaland chased down the target in 34.5 overs making 172 with 6 wickets to spare. Debutant Thejasilie Savino’s knock of 53 not-out and Sujal (31 not out) were instrumental to the chase stitching a solid 5th wicket stand after the first 4 wickets fell quite cheap. Nripen made 20, while Rupreo chipped in with 19.

For the Manipur bowlers, Jotin, Kalyan, Vivekananda and Somokanta took 1 wicket each.

Nagaland will next face Meghalaya on September 29 at the same venue. The Plate Group consists of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

The women’s under-19 Plate Group match between Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh scheduled on September 28 at the KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneshwar, was postponed to September 30 owing to a cyclone alert.

As per the updated fixture, Nagaland U-19 women will next face Meghalaya on October 1, Jammu & Kashmir on October 2, Sikkim on October 3 and Manipur on October 4.
