GUWAHATI, MARCH 21 (MExN): The Nagaland U-23 basketball team has made history by reaching to the pre-quarterfinals of the 1st U-23 National Championship. This marks the first time the team has reached this stage in a national-level competition.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Nagaland faced Punjab in a tough match. The teams were closely matched in the first quarter, with Punjab leading 21-18. However, Nagaland ultimately lost the game, with a final score of 51-92.
Team captain Neisezo Theunuo led the team with a standout performance, scoring 22 points. Although the team did not advance further, their performance throughout the tournament has been seen as a sign of significant progress.
Competing at the national level provided the players with an opportunity to improve their skills and gain valuable experience against some of the top teams in the country, a press release issued by the Nagaland Basketball Association stated.
The NBA has expressed pride in the team’s achievement, recognizing the dedication and hard work of the players and coaching staff. They stated that reaching the pre-quarterfinals is an important step forward for basketball in Nagaland.
