Kohima, June 23 (MExN): In a move to facilitate voter participation in the upcoming Municipal and Town Council Elections, the Labour Commissioner of Nagaland has declared June 26 as a paid holiday for workers in Commercial and Industrial Establishments in the State.
Accordingly, all Employers and Occupiers of the Commercial and Industrial Establishments in the State are directed to pay wages at a rate equal to the daily average of each worker's total full-time earnings for the day for which paid leave is declared.
No deductions whatsoever shall be made from the wages of any workers falling under the specified category, stated the Commissioner.
This directive was given under Section 10(2) and 11(3) of the Nagaland Shop & Establishment Act, 1986, and Section 80(1) of the Factories Act, 1948, informed the State DIPR.
Earlier, the Nagaland Government had declared June 26 as a paid holiday for all State Government employees in the municipal and town council areas of the districts going to polls.
It also applies to all categories of employees ordinarily residing in one area but having their place of work in another area, stated a notification from the Home Department.
In addition, the polling day has also been declared a paid holiday for all employees of banks and financial institutions in the municipal and town council areas under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Act XXVI) to enable them to exercise their franchise.
