Nagaland undertakes prog to scale up of lowland paddy

Kohima, July 7 (MExN): The Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland organized one-day training and awareness programme on ‘scaling up of lowland paddy’ at its Conference Hall on July 7. 


Director of Agriculture, M Ben Yanthan addressing the programme said that the scheme was a new programme under RKVY (Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana) scheme inorder to enhanced food production in the State.


Yanthan said that in Nagaland only few crops are in commercial production and therefore, to achieve the Department’s target of ‘Food for all by 2025,’ he encouraged the officials to rededicate and strengthen to improve the agriculture production in the State. 


He stated that initially, only two districts, Wokha and Mokokchung and eight SDAOs division including  Nuiland, Baghty, Mangkolemba, Jalukie, Naginemora, Tuli, Medziphema and Tizit are for lowland paddy.


Stating that there is requirement to expand 940 hecters for Kharif crops, Yanthan said, “Expansion of areas is one of the importance to produced production.”


During the training, the key implementation of the scheme was delivered by Letkholal Hangsing, Jt Director of Agriculture (Planning). He emphasized on the guidelines of the implementation of the new programme scheme under RKVY. Letkholal also stressed on the importance to achieve the self sufficiency production and encouraged the Agri officials to uphold their duties once they go back to their respective areas to improved Agri allied sectors.
