Nagaland University holds national seminar on Viksit Bharat@2047

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 25 (MExN): The Department of Commerce, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, organised a two-day ICSSR-sponsored national seminar on the theme “Viksit Bharat@2047 – A Journey from 1947 to 2047” on November 18–19. The seminar brought together academicians, researchers and students from across the country to deliberate on India’s economic, financial and social transformation leading up to 2047.

The inaugural ceremony began with an invocation by Asu Chuzho, followed by the University Anthem. Prof Joy Das, Head of the Department of Commerce and Seminar Convenor, delivered the welcome address and introduced the seminar theme and objectives.

Prof N. Venuh, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kohima Campus, and Prof Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, Assam, graced the inaugural session as Guests of Honour. Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish K. Patnaik, who attended as Chief Guest, stressed the importance of inclusive growth and knowledge-driven development for a Viksit Bharat.

Prof Madhusudan Karmakar of IIM Lucknow delivered the keynote address, outlining India’s financial vision for 2047 with a focus on sustainable finance. Special honours were presented to T. Vihienuo and Prof AK Mishra for their contributions to the university.

A plenary session on “Transparency and Transformation: Strengthening India’s Financial and Economic Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047” followed, with presentations by Prof. Madhumita Chakraborty of IIM Lucknow and Prof Karamala Padmasree of the Central University of Karnataka.

Across the two days, the seminar featured five technical tracks—Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Corporate Governance and CSR, and Entrepreneurship and Tourism. More than 60 researchers presented papers on themes such as AI and labour dynamics, digital financial inclusion, ESG disclosures, green banking, MSME development, women’s empowerment and sustainable tourism. Participants represented institutions from Karnataka, West Bengal and several Northeastern states. Sessions were chaired by scholars from leading universities across India.

The seminar concluded on November 19 with a valedictory ceremony. Prof. Joy Das delivered the welcome address, followed by the valedictory address by Prof Gautam Patikar of Nagaland University. Prof Buno Liegise of the Department of Education attended as Guest of Honour, while Prof N. Venuh addressed the gathering as Chief Guest. Prof Das, in his role as Convenor, presented the key insights from the deliberations.

Participants shared feedback before certificates were distributed. Dr Shashikant D.H. proposed the vote of thanks. The seminar provided a platform for interdisciplinary discussion, research sharing and academic collaboration, with participants expressing satisfaction with the academic quality of the sessions and the hospitality extended by the Department of Commerce.
