Lumami, October 2 (MExN): Nagaland University celebrated the contributions of sanitation workers on October 1 with a Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir (Safai Mitra Security Camp) as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Prof JK Patnaik stressed the vital role sanitation workers play in maintaining cleanliness and fostering a positive environment at the university. He urged them to embrace their responsibilities and carry out their duties with diligence, highlighting how their efforts can steer the university towards a brighter future.
Additionally, he administered the Swachhata pledge and distributed Suraksha kits to the sanitation workers in recognition of their hard work.
AngunuoKhieya, Deputy Registrar, Finance Section, enlightened attendees about various government schemes that could benefit everyone in general, and sanitation workers in particular. She focused on entitlements related to housing, electricity, water, health, food, ration cards, and banking, encouraging everyone to take advantage of these opportunities.
Earlier in the event, Peter Ki, PRO and Nodal Officer for Swachhata Hi Seva 2024, welcomed attendees and highlighted the university’s initiatives. These included tree planting, cleanup efforts at the Toti-La Local Bazaar and around the Multipurpose Hall, as well as health screenings and counselling sessions for sanitation workers in collaboration with the University Health Centre, informed a press release from the NU PRO.
