Nagaland University wins five medals at All India Pencak Silat Championship

DIMAPUR, APRIL 19 (MExN): Nagaland University athletes secured a total of five medals, including two gold and three bronze at the All India Inter-University Pencak Silat Championship 2024–25 held in Bengaluru from April 14 to 16. The event was organized jointly by Bengaluru North University and Kristu Jayanti College (KJC), with over 750 athletes from 68 universities participating in the national-level martial arts competition.

Nagaland University’s team, managed by Assistant Director of Sports Mesanguto Meru, included both male and female participants. According to university officials, gold medals in the Tanding (Sparring) category were won by Kevin and Liike Kibami, while Akhumse A. Sangtam, Puloka K. Achumi, and Niepuleno Suokhrie took home bronze medals, also in Tanding. One gold and one bronze medal were won by female athletes.

The university’s sports section, under the leadership of Deputy Director of Sports Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, had conducted open trials to select athletes from both the university and its affiliated colleges ahead of the competition.

Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik congratulated the medal winners and acknowledged the efforts of the university’s sports staff and management in supporting the athletes’ performance.
