Marking the International Women’s Day, the Ferrando Domestic Workers’ Alliance (FDWA) Kohima today organized programme for domestic workers here at Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) conference hall.

Speaking on the theme “I am generation equality: Realizing women's rights,” Avile Vitso said “The generation equality campaign is bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country to drive actions that will create the gender equal world we all deserve.”

“This year we celebrate our day by advocating women’s rights to equality: equal pay for equal work, equal right to education, social and economic justice, religious rights, health rights, etc.,” she said adding, “We also stand against gender-based violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, workplace harassment, etc.”

Let us celebrate the gift of life God has given us, our talents and skills, our inner beauty and strength, womanhood and motherhood, intelligence and wisdom, zeal and energy, etc, she said and challenged each and every individual to create awareness among themselves to stand together against any form of violence against women, any kind of negative influence on womenfolk, any form of unequal treatment or exploitation.

“Women also have the right to fulfill dreams, get education, build careers, build homes, achieve aims, earn livelihood, live independent lives, freely partake in religious and social activities, participate in politics, freely express thoughts and live confidently without fear,” she said.

She also urged the women to take a resolution today to “take care of our girl child / daughter (or sisters) and give them equal opportunities with as much love and respect as we do our sons (or brothers).”

She said that International Women's Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women achievements - from the political to the social - while calling for gender equality.

The programme was chaired by Floret Sekhose, PS to DUDA advisor while welcome address was delivered by FDWA Kohima coordinator Theresa Langhu. Ronjali group presented special number. Lily extended gratitude to FWWA Kohima for the programme.
Aneibu Veronica proposed vote of thanks.
