
Designers and weavers across northeast showcasing their collection at the Assam edition of North East India Fashion Week in Guwahati on August 26 .
Naga designers Kyong Gloria Ovung and Menty Jamir, and indigenous weavers Zubeni Kikon, Thekrunei-u Shuya and Yatetla Pongen participated in the Assam edition of the North-East India Fashion Week, which was held on August 26 at the Assam Engineering Institute Field, Chandmari, Guwahati. Building up for the premier fashion event’s 3rd edition in Itanagar later this year, Affluent Ray of Light (ARL) christened Saturday’s event ‘The Khadi Movement- Assam Edition’. The show was an insight to what’s in store for the guests at the three-day fashion extravaganza in Itanagar later this year. The event is conceptualized to inspire and encourage the upcoming handicraft artisans and designers of the region who are working exclusively towards the promotion of northeast fabrics and culture. The Assam edition witnessed the participation of over 50 designers and indigenous weavers. Speaking about her participation in the event, designer Menty Jamir said, “Fashion is one of the most influential phenomenon in civilization, it is almost second nature to us. An understanding of fashion contributes to the understanding of ourselves- our personal style, cultural background, beliefs and environment; our style is our identity- with my designing skill I want to keep my culture alive.” Highlighting about the Assam edition of the fashion week, Jack Taniya Budh, chief operating officer for the Assam edition, said that the event is a prelude to the grand showcase that awaits fashion enthusiasts in Itanagar later this year.
