Chümoukedima, May 29 (MExN): Around hundred women leaders from different religions, denominations and communities were trained to prevent violent conflicts and peace building during a training held at Peace Centre, Chümoukedima on May 27.
Dr Fr C P Anto, Director, Peace Channel and Principal NEISSR, in his keynote address mentioned that women play a vital role in peace building in North East India especially the organisations like NMA, NBCC and other women organizations have set models already, stated a press release received here. He spoke about preventing, intervening and resolving conflicts, and also highlighted that Peace Centre as institute stands for peace research, peace building and training people for facilitation, dialogue and negotiation.
Fr Anto stated examples of how women folk in Rwanda after genocide rebuild the country and how the women played important role in rebuilding through resilience and reconciliation. He also brought out various processes and techniques in conflict resolution.
Mhabeni Ngullie, the resource person expressed concern about how important it is to have peace within oneself and the luxurious health that comes along with peaceful state of mind. Speaking about women's leadership in Peace negotiations, the speaker shared the story of Abigail from the Bible and encouraged women folk to understand how important it is to know and initiate peace negotiations when circumstances arises. She also opened up about her personal experiences of how she intervened during the conflicting situation as a mediator.
The session was followed by a group activity where all the participants were divided according to the units and churches and each group were asked to present on the issues that are prevailing in their society and how can they reduce or eradicate such issues. They also had group discussion and Q&A session. The programme began with invocation by Hanna, Women Pastor, Nagamese Baptist Church. It was chaired by Livino S Zhimo, Trainer Peace Channel with welcome address by Caroline Leisan, District Coordinator Peace Channel. The session was concluded with vote of thanks followed by a Peace Anthem.
