‘Nagaland worst performing in North East in blood donation’

Kohima, January 21 (MExN): “Nagaland is the worst performing state among the north-eastern states, in terms of donating blood,” Alila Sangtam, MO, Blood Bank, Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) underscored. She was speaking as resource person during a programme at Model Christian College, Kohima.  She also spoke on the importance of donating blood and mentioned the benefits of donating blood; and how it is beneficial to the donors too. A  Red Ribbon Club (RRC) orientation programme cum blood donation and HIV test was jointly organised by Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and National Service Scheme (NSS), Model Christian College, Kohima on January 19 at the college campus. 

Other resource persons were Chongkhoi Khaming, Assistant Director (MM), Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), and Benathung Humtsoe, DA, IEC, NSACS, stated a press release from Albert Arücho, College Administrator.

Chongkhoi spoke on the basics of HIV, wherein she briefed about the common misconceptions of HIV and AIDS, the different routes of infection, the ABC steps in avoiding the virus and the blood testing procedures. 

Benathung presented the HIV scenario of the state. The orientation programme was followed by blood donation and HIV test. Altogether 21 volunteers donated blood.
