Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): A team of five Wushu fighters from Nagaland, accompanied by three officials, has set off for the 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The competition is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 26 at Maharana Pratap Stadium, Raipur, as announced in a press release from the Nagaland Wushu Association.
The team, representing the Nagaland Wushu Association, is led by coach Neizouvotuo Khusoh, with R.K. Shanti Kumar Singh serving as the assistant coach and Azhove Resu as the team manager.
The athletes competing in the Sanda event include Vipu Zhimomi in the 52 kg category, Mankho T. Konyak in the 56 kg category, Nupa Kiho in the 60 kg category, Lichonthung Odyuo in the 65 kg category, and Yoto Chizo in the 70 kg category. A top-eight finish at the championship will grant these fighters the opportunity to represent Nagaland in the upcoming National Games.
Coach Neizouvotuo Khusoh expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, stating that the intensive training camp had been fruitful. He remains optimistic about securing a medal, emphasizing that the players would give their utmost effort while hoping for no injuries during the competition.
In support of the team, Küdecho Khamo, President and Advisor of CAWD and Taxes, extended his best wishes. He encouraged the athletes, reminding them that their performance reflects the prestige of Nagaland and the association. Khamo emphasized that while the outcome is ultimately in God’s hands, their dedication and effort are vital in the pursuit of victory, urging them to perform to the best of their abilities.
