In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (YRS) Nagaland undertook a ‘Walk for peace’ to propagate and acknowledge Gandhi’s principle of non-violence.

The programme is part of the Fit India plogging run.

Fit India movement was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019. According to it, the movement involves behavioral change, which is possible by making it a people’s movement wherein every citizen gives time to himself for being physically active and fit.

The run was flagged off by Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports Director Akumla Chuba at PHQ junction and culminated at Kohima Local Ground.

Paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Director challenged the gathering to remember the good deeds of Mahatma Gandhi and emulate the principles of non violence and peaceful co-existence. As we take walk for peace, she said, let us spread the message of peace and bring harmony to our community.

YRS officials along with National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers took part in the event.

Niisieta Rhakho, Additional Secretary Home and Hupasayi Tetseo, under Secretary Home, Nagaland also joined the event.

Later, NSS state Laison officer Zeneikho-o proposed vote of thanks.
