Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, said youths who are employed in private sectors are a boon to the state as they are creating resources for the state and not giving burden to the government.
The minister said educated youth who are self-employed or working in private sectors after acquiring skills in various trades and professions are ultimately lightening the financial burden of the government.
The minister was speaking at the anniversary celebration of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) ‘Antyodaya Diwas’ on the theme “Be skilled, be employed” at Niathu Resort on Wednesday.
Jamir said employment in government sector has reached saturation point and the government is concerned about the growing numbers of educated unemployed youths.
Referring to hundreds of youths who are undergoing training in various skills, Jamir said it was a relief to see that the youth are becoming increasingly conscious how to be self-employed and self-reliant instead on depending on the government for job and livelihood.
The minister said as more youth take up jobs in private sectors, the resources of the government can be utilized for development of the state including roads and infrastructure.
Encouraging the trainees, he said all rags to riches stories are made in the private sectors and ventures and not in government jobs.
He further reminded the trainees on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to transform the rural youths of the country to a global workforce.
Additional secretary RD and mission director, Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Athel O Lotha, in her keynote address said NSRLM has ensured that systems are put in place and skilling programmes are being rolled out on solid footing and following stringent processes in selection of project implementing agencies (PIAs).
Athel informed that since DDU-GKY rollout, 1348 rural youths have commenced training out of which 722 are trained and 162 candidates are placed in different companies across the country.
“By end of the financial year, we expect to train and place at least 1300 youths. Similarly, by 2022, NSRLM has a mandate to train 9060 rural youths out of which at least 70% (6342 trainess) are meaningfully placed in different sectors”, the NSRLM mission director said.
General manager, Niathu Group of Hotels & Resorts, Anthony Chasteii and Malcolm Fernandez, English and soft skills trainer of Gyanjyoti Foundation shared their expertise and knowledge with the trainees.
Tiarenla, public relation operator of VLCC Salon; Pashi Khiamniungan, placement manager of Jetika Solutions Pvt. Ltd. And Debendra Momin, technician at Progressive Motors, also shared their success stories.
Tenzing Choesang, North East representative for DDU-GKY Ministry of Rural Development, also addressed the gathering.
Additional mission director, NSRLM, Kevipodi Sophie, chaired the programme.
Later, a panel discussion was held on the topic “career opportunities in private sector.”
