KOHIMA, OCTOBER 15 (MExN): Putuonuo Hospital, Kohima, achieved a major milestone in reproductive healthcare with the birth of its first in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) baby on Wednesday.
The baby, a healthy full-term infant weighing 2.7 kg, was born on October 15, marking the successful completion of the entire IVF process under one roof at the hospital, the only standalone licensed IVF centre in Nagaland.
According to the hospital, Putuonuo is presently the only centre in the state with a complete in-house team of specialists, without dependence on outsourced embryologists, visiting consultants or batch cycles.
The IVF team at Putuonuo is led by Consultant Infertility Specialist Dr Thejavinuo Keditsu (MS), embryologists Suryakant Prasad (MSc) and Naghophukali Swu (MSc), fertility nurses Vipino Thapo and Ongalomimi, IVF GDA Civonuyi Medeo, and anaesthetist Dr Kekhriesetuo Liezietsu (MD).
Hospital authorities said the achievement reflects Nagaland’s growing medical capabilities, bringing advanced reproductive treatment within reach of local couples who previously had to travel outside the state or country for such procedures.
Established 35 years ago, Putuonuo Hospital continues its mission “to be a centre of excellence in healthcare through multidisciplinary, up-to-date, ethical clinical practice, continuing medical education and research, building trust across communities through outreach, with a focus on delivering equitable and accessible healthcare to all.”
