The Kichutip Sporting Association (KSA), under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), on Saturday announced the launch of Nagaland’s first Under-15 futsal tournament, scheduled to be held from July 1 to 3 at Mujabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung.

Announcing the tournament at a press conference held at Arok Salang, KSA President Imtichiba Kichu said the initiative marks a significant step in grassroots football development in the state.

Established in 1998 under the motto “Greater Heights,” the KSA currently has over 200 registered members, many of whom have represented Nagaland and India in national and international sporting events, he said.

Terming the event a landmark initiative, Kichu said the tournament, held under the theme “Rise Up,” aims to provide a structured platform for young footballers across the state.

Tournament Planning Committee Convenor, Tinukaba Longchar said the concept was conceived during the association’s Silver Jubilee celebration in 2023. “We found that while tournaments exist for senior players, opportunities for young children to compete in structured formats are limited,” he said, adding that the timing during school summer vacations is expected to boost participation.

The six-a-side tournament is open to teams from all districts of Nagaland. Confirmed entries have already been received from Mokokchung, Dimapur and other locations. The registration fee is Rs 2000 per team, and the deadline for submission is June 15. All players must be born on or after January 1, 2010.

The total prize money for the tournament is Rs 80,000, including awards for champions, runners-up, semi-finalists, and individual recognitions.

Planning Committee member Er Taliwapang said the initiative aligns with the association’s long-term strategy to promote youth engagement in sports and was part of resolutions adopted during its Silver Jubilee.

The tournament is sponsored by NI Enterprise and Longterok Football Club, with Nagaland Tribune as the official media partner. Supporting partners include HPCL, MKG Sports Store, Moalong Sounds & Lights, Dots & Lines, Kichu Towing, R&M Stay, and other local enterprises.
