There are currently 1672 sanctioned State Cadre posts for Graduate Teachers (GTs) in 247 Government High Schools (GHSs) and an additional 645 in 52 Government Higher Secondary Schools across Nagaland.
Nagaland Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of the School Education Department, Neiphiu Rio, provided this information in response to a question posed by MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu on the second day of the 4th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on February 27.
According to the subject-wise breakdown of GTs in the response, English and Social Science/General teachers hold the highest positions, with 1022 in GHSs and 401 in GHSSs. Interestingly, there are only 2 Language Teachers in GHSs and 4 in GHSSs.
In response to questions regarding the specific teacher strength in various districts, Rio conveyed that there are 212 GTs in 17 GHSs in Kohima; 124 GTs in 22 GHSs in Zunheboto; 250 GTs in 38 GHSs in Mokokchung; 158 GTs in 15 GHSs in Tuensang; and 91 GTs in 16 GHSs in Mon district.
