‘Nagaland’s invalid votes a shame’

Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): The embarrassing five invalid votes of Nagaland state in the recent elections for President of India is a shame and has spoilt the “whole” Electoral College, local authorities are lamenting. The Nagaland Legislative Assembly is asked to immediately clarify on the “crime in a democracy” rather than be leaders ‘who are like bats in the dark.’

In the recent elections for President of India, Nagaland state was the only state “figured out” with five invalid votes. Even Uttar Pradesh, with the highest votes cast, did not have a single invalid vote, it was informed.

A note demanding clarification from the Nagaland Legislative Assembly was received here from local authorities of Longkum, Akhoya, Langpangkong and Changtongya. The invalid votes have brought a great shame to the people of Nagaland and spoilt the image of the Electorate College stated a Longkum GB, the Akhoya Village Council, the Langpangkong GBs’ Association and Changtongya.

“It was far beyond our imagination that our trusted leaders would commit such serious mistake; the five invalid votes show our immaturity in politics, (incompetence) in making decisions” the local authorities lamented. They reminded that the people today need leaders who can walk in “broad daylight,” and leaders who possess the capability to “say yes” to what is right and “no” to what is wrong.

“We do not require a leader who prefers to walk in the dark like bats, neither bird nor animal, and squeaking in the dark searching for food” the note explained.

The five elected NLA members responsible for the five invalid votes are asked to “come out openly” and make “your stand clear why you chose to deprive the peoples’ vote.”
